Today, April 30, 2012, One World Trade Center will become the tallest building in NYC. As steel workers add columns to this not yet finished 104 floor sky scraper it will reach a height of more than 1250 feet topping the The Empire State Building. The plans for One World Trade Center, formerly known as Freedom Tower, were unveiled in June of 2005. It occupies a 200 square foot footprint that is nearly identical to the original World Trade Towers. The foundations were poured in November 2006 and completion is scheduled for 2013. The completed structure will become the tallest building in the western hemisphere at a symbolic height of 1776 feet.
